Farris later married Rose "Sarah" Cline who was a loving step mother and grandma to Ernestines's family.
She graduated from Ft. Madison High School IA in 1947 as the salutatorian. In 1951 Ernestine graduated from the University of Iowa with a BA in home economics and was a member of Chi Omega sorority. In 1956 she married the love of her life Dwight Francis Delaney. Together they had 6 beautiful children whom Ernestine raised on her own after Dwight lost his battle with cancer at the young age of 40. She stayed in the Chicago area for some time after his death and then moved back to Ft. Madison Iowa to be closer to her parents and sister. After her retirement she moved back to the Chicago area to be near her children.
She enjoyed cooking, dancing, music and being with her family. She was proud of her Lebanese heritage and loved the annual Rashid family reunions.
