HARMET, Harold “Hal” H., of Hinsdale, Ill., passed away at home on December 27, 2018. Hal was born on July 3, 1929 in Chicago to Alfred Harmet and Evelyn R. Harmet, and was raised with his brothers Kenneth and Richard in Oak Park, Ill., where he attended Oak Park River Forest High School.

Hal graduated from Indiana University in 1951, where he played football and earned letters as a high jumper in track and field his junior and senior years. He then attended Harvard Business School and earned a Master of Business Administration in 1953.

Following graduation from Business School, Hal was selected for Officer Candidate School at Naval Station Newport, R.I., where he was commissioned as an Ensign in the United States Navy. He gained the rank of Lieutenant during service in Naples, Italy.

After his service, Hal returned to Chicago and married Jean Anderson Somers in 1956. Together, they settled in Hinsdale and raised three children: Sally (Robert) Powers, David (Lisa) Harmet, and Jeffrey (Anne) Harmet. Hal was widowed in 1987, and married Phyllis G. McCoy in 1990.

Hal had a long and successful career in the financial services industry as a Certified Financial Analyst with several Chicago firms, and later as a money manager for individual discretionary accounts at William Blair & Co.  He remained interested and engaged in the stock market throughout his life.

An excellent athlete, Hal was a very competitive tennis player and swam daily until late in life. He enjoyed golf and was a member of the Hinsdale Golf Club and for many years kept a second home in Savannah, Ga.

In addition to his wife and children, Hal is survived by his brother Richard (Joan) Harmet, eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild, as well as the McCoy family and many friends.
